Teaching

I've started teaching part time at Ex'pression College in Emeryville.

Which is very much like the private media arts college I went to years ago. For the first semester I'm acting as a teachers assistant of sorts in an introductory texturing/lighting class.

Not since teaching this class have I realized how far I've come since my college days. I still see myself as the scrappy student fresh from school trying to figure out how the pros do it. But after a few hours helping real scrappy college students with problems that are as familiar and easily solvable as breathing is to me, I realized that I am in fact much farther along than I realized. I'm a lead/senior artist now and have been for years, and I don't think I've really integrated that into my self concept until this experience.

I'm joining the faculty as "Course Director" or some such title, and I think the plan roughly is for me to be more involved lecturing and teaching a number of different courses in upcoming semesters, perhaps with a focus on fundamentals such as figure drawing, and concept art, etc.

All very exciting, and happily in keeping with my recent resolve to start using my art and skill to give to others.
